Viking Therapeutics Adds Digital Health Veteran Dorothy Gemmell to Board
As Viking Therapeutics accelerates toward a potential launch for its weight-loss drug VK2735, the clinical-stage firm has appointed Dorothy Gemmell to its board of directors. Her background in digital health and commercial scaling arrives at a pivotal juncture for the company as it shifts from development toward market entry.
Gemmell brings over 25 years of experience across the healthcare sector, having held leadership roles at firms including GoodRx, Capsule, and Havas Life. Her career centers on scaling organizations and navigating revenue models within payer, provider, and pharmaceutical markets. At Viking, she joins a board currently overseeing a robust pipeline, most notably the dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist VK2735, which is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical evaluation.
CEO Brian Lian highlighted Gemmell’s ability to translate scientific innovation into commercial performance as a key factor for this appointment. Her expertise in go-to-market strategies is expected to support Viking’s efforts to establish a foothold in the competitive obesity and metabolic disease landscape. Chairman Lawson Macartney noted that her commercial background complements the board's existing strength in pharmaceutical development, providing a necessary bridge as the company prepares its next-generation therapies for patients.
