Civista Bancshares Reports $14.3 Million Second-Quarter Profit

Sandusky-based Civista Bancshares, Inc. posted a net income of $14.3 million for the second quarter of 2026, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. Despite this year-over-year growth, the company saw a modest 4.5% decline from the $15.0 million reported in the first quarter of 2026.

The financial results reflect the ongoing integration of The Farmers Savings Bank, a merger finalized in November 2025. Diluted earnings per share reached $0.69, slightly down from $0.71 a year ago, a shift management attributed to the issuance of additional shares following the merger and a 2025 stock offering.

Civista’s net interest margin expanded to 3.89%, up 25 basis points year-over-year, as the company benefited from reduced funding costs and improved deposit pricing. While total assets remained steady at $4.3 billion, the bank continued to optimize its funding mix by reducing higher-cost brokered deposits by $25 million during the quarter.

As the company navigates this transition, a leadership change is set for August 28, 2026. President and CEO Dennis Shaffer will retire, with Chuck Parcher stepping in to lead the institution. Shaffer cited disciplined balance sheet management and operational excellence as the drivers behind the current performance, noting that the firm remains well-positioned for future growth in its Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky markets.
