AcroCyte Therapeutics Secures ARPA-H Funding for Organoid Tech

AcroCyte Therapeutics has been selected for funding by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health to accelerate the development of scalable human organoid technologies. The project aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical regenerative medicine by standardizing how replacement tissues are manufactured for patients.

The initiative centers on the company’s proprietary R3CE platform, which allows for the rapid, reproducible three-dimensional expansion of rare human cells. Currently registered as an FDA Class I medical device, the system addresses long-standing hurdles in the field, specifically the difficulty of producing standardized organoid modules at scale. By utilizing autologous kidney cells, researchers can develop physiologically relevant renal tissues in a matter of weeks, providing a potential alternative to traditional organ transplantation.

To ensure global regulatory alignment, AcroCyte is launching a binational development program. The effort integrates clinical expertise from the University of Chicago Medicine in the United States and the National Taiwan University Hospital, alongside the National Center for Biomodels. According to Dr. Ying C. Chang, CEO of AcroCyte, this support validates the company’s push to transition three-dimensional cell technologies from experimental settings into robust clinical systems. Professor Jia-Horng Kao, Vice Superintendent of NTUH, noted that the partnership seeks to leverage international research resources to tackle the growing burden of chronic kidney disease.
