METLEN and HOUTRIS Forge Defence Manufacturing Alliance in Cyprus
A new industrial joint venture between Greece’s METLEN and Cyprus-based HOUTRIS aims to overhaul the island's domestic defence production. By blending M Technologies’ international expertise in complex systems with local manufacturing infrastructure, the partners intend to establish a sustainable industrial footprint capable of supporting integrated military vehicle production.
The agreement marks a deepening of strategic cooperation between the two nations, moving beyond procurement to establish localized production and integration capabilities. Operating under the European SAFE programme, the new entity will prioritize the assembly of military vehicles while creating a framework for long-term maintenance and technical support for advanced defence equipment throughout the region.
This partnership relies on a direct transfer of know-how from M Technologies, the defence subsidiary of METLEN. Having previously contributed to high-profile projects including Patriot systems, Leopard tanks, and FDI HN frigates, M Technologies brings a proven track record in industrial integration. For HOUTRIS, the collaboration offers a path to modernize its manufacturing base and secure a role in large-scale defence projects, effectively positioning Cyprus as a more autonomous participant in regional security supply chains.
