SEMCAP Beauty & Wellness Takes Minority Stake in MERIT
Vasiliki Petrou, the veteran architect behind Unilever Prestige, is moving to the board of MERIT following a new minority investment from SEMCAP Beauty & Wellness. The deal positions the minimalist cosmetics brand for a broader international expansion, leveraging Petrou’s decades of experience scaling global beauty portfolios.

Petrou, who built her reputation overseeing major acquisitions like Dermalogica and Paula’s Choice, plans to work directly with the executive team to refine the brand’s global strategy. Since its founding in 2021, MERIT has carved out a distinct niche by targeting millennial and Gen X consumers with a simplified, edited product range, a segment Petrou identifies as a vital white space in the current market.
MERIT CEO Philippe Pinatel noted that the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on long-term brand equity and financial discipline. The investment marks a strategic move for SEMCAP, which targets high-growth companies capable of sustained, durable expansion. While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the move signals a push to transition MERIT from a successful independent label into a significant global player.
