The Ellis Island Honors Society is rallying support for H. Res. 1350, urging lawmakers to back the proposal as a necessary remedy for current national discord. The organization argues that the country faces a crisis of distrust that conflicts with the ideals established at its founding. Nasser Kazeminy, Chairman of the Board, described the resolution as a meaningful step toward restoring mutual respect and common purpose.

The measure proposes aligning the new observance with Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. It seeks to honor the collective contributions of immigrants and citizens from all backgrounds, while explicitly targeting the reduction of racism, xenophobia, and discrimination. By invoking the motto E Pluribus Unum, proponents hope to remind Americans of the nation's capacity to rise above internal conflict, drawing on the historical legacy of Ellis Island, where nearly 40 percent of the population can trace their ancestry.

Former Congressman Dan Burton, a board member of the society, framed the resolution as a contribution to national healing. The timing of the push follows the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone the group believes provides a fitting backdrop for reaffirming the principles of liberty and equality. The society maintains that a formal day of recognition will encourage civic education and public service, serving as a reminder to heed the better angels of our nature.
