Geekbench 7 arrives with tougher tests for modern hardware
Primate Labs has launched Geekbench 7, a major update to its industry-standard benchmarking suite designed to push CPUs and GPUs harder through larger, more complex datasets. The new iteration shifts away from the previous version's metrics, introducing specialized testing for modern media workloads including AV1, Opus, and video conferencing.
While the interface remains virtually identical to its predecessor, the underlying mechanics have been overhauled to reflect contemporary software behavior. The software now incorporates specific audio and video encoding tests, alongside a redesigned multi-core methodology that only triggers multi-threading when the simulated real-world task demands it. These refinements aim to bridge the gap between quick synthetic bursts and the actual processing power required by modern applications.
Despite these internal changes, the tool maintains its signature speed, with tests concluding in just a few minutes. Primate Labs has priced the Pro license at $99, with a temporary discount to $79 available through August 6th. Because the scoring architecture has been entirely rebuilt, previous results from Geekbench 6 are incompatible with the new version, forcing reviewers and enthusiasts to start their testing cycles from scratch.
