Alps Dx Unveils Xpressor Filtration System for Oral Fluid Testing
Toxicology laboratories often struggle with manual sample preparation, a bottleneck prone to contamination and error. At the 2026 ADLM Annual Meeting, Richmond-based Alps Dx will introduce Xpressor, a filtration and capping device engineered to automate these early-stage handling requirements and standardize sample clarity across forensic and clinical workflows.

Current industry standards frequently force technicians to manually squeeze swabs, cycle through multiple glove changes, and perform time-consuming centrifugation. These traditional methods introduce variability and increase the risk of sample loss. Xpressor addresses these pain points by allowing filtration to occur directly within the original collection tube, a design choice intended to protect sample integrity without requiring labs to overhaul their established protocols.
Les Edinboro, co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Alps Dx, noted that the system streamlines the preparation process into two distinct steps: opening the tube and inserting the filter-cap assembly. Early studies indicate that this shift reduces consumable waste and improves chain-of-custody traceability. Alongside this launch, the company will showcase its Atelier automated processing platform, a subscription-based system designed to scale high-throughput diagnostic operations without necessitating heavy upfront capital investment. Together, these tools represent a broader effort to modernize the preanalytical continuum in oral fluid testing.
