Global Food Authority Confirms Famine in Gaza
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has officially declared a famine in the Gaza Governorate, marking the most severe level of humanitarian catastrophe. This designation confirms that systemic barriers to aid have pushed the population beyond emergency thresholds into a state of widespread starvation and death.

The IPC, an international initiative monitoring global food emergencies, issued a special snapshot confirming that conditions in Gaza have reached Phase 5, the highest category of famine. Current data shows that over half a million people are suffering from extreme destitution, while more than 1 million others remain in a state of emergency. Projections through September 2025 suggest this crisis will expand, with famine conditions expected to reach Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.
Required Humanitarian Interventions
To reverse this trajectory, the IPC has outlined critical, non-negotiable requirements for intervention:
- An immediate and sustained cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of life.
- Guaranteed, unconditional, and safe humanitarian access across all entry points.
- Massive, unobstructed delivery of food, fuel, health services, and clean water.
- Protection of all civilians and the restoration of essential infrastructure.
- The revival of commercial supply chains and local food production.
