Boox Targets Ultra-Portable Market with New Picco E-Reader

The Picco represents the debut of Boox’s new Tile lineup, which the company confirmed is currently in development. While specific pricing and release dates remain under wraps, Boox representatives have signaled an accessible price point for the device. Unlike the company’s more robust, Android-powered Boox Palma, the Picco is expected to utilize a stripped-back, tiled interface designed specifically for basic functions like reading, music playback, and podcasts.

Hardware design remains the primary point of differentiation between the two competitors. While the Picco includes an SD card slot for expandable storage and visible physical buttons, it is unclear if the device will feature a touchscreen or replicate the magnetic MagSafe compatibility that defines Xteink’s successful X4 Pro. The front-lit screen suggests the Picco will compete directly with the X4 Pro’s capabilities, yet without the magnetic mounting system, Boox will need to convince users that its hardware stands on its own merits.
