Solid Joins Snowflake-Led Initiative to Standardize AI Semantic Models
Data infrastructure firm Solid has joined the Open Semantic Interchange, a vendor-neutral initiative spearheaded by Snowflake to establish a universal language for business metrics. By creating an open-source specification, the project aims to ensure that AI agents and analytics platforms interpret data definitions consistently across fragmented enterprise environments.

The Open Semantic Interchange (OSI) addresses a persistent friction point in modern data stacks: the lack of interoperability between disparate business intelligence tools, data warehouses, and machine learning models. By fostering a common, vendor-agnostic specification, the initiative intends to streamline how organizations share metadata, effectively removing the barriers that often lead to conflicting metrics across dashboards and AI workflows.
For Solid, the partnership represents a shift toward automating the semantic layer. According to CEO Yoni Leitersdorf, the collaboration ensures that business context moves seamlessly between systems, allowing companies to build reliable AI applications without being tethered to a single vendor’s ecosystem. Josh Klahr, director of analytics product management at Snowflake, described the effort as a necessary bedrock for scaling AI, providing the consistency required to transform raw data into actionable intelligence. As part of the community-driven project, Solid will contribute to the development of transparent standards designed to adapt to evolving business definitions, contrasting with legacy models that typically require extensive manual updates.
