Amazon sets November release for Blade Runner 2099
Fifty years after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, the neon-soaked dystopia returns to the screen. Prime Video confirmed the eight-episode series Blade Runner 2099 will debut on November 25, dropping the entire season at once to immerse viewers in a crumbling, non-human version of Los Angeles.
The narrative follows Cora, a fugitive who assumes the identity of a Blade Runner in a desperate attempt to stop running. She is forced into an uneasy partnership with Olwen, a Replicant nearing the end of her lifespan. Together, they hunt a target whose secrets threaten to dismantle their fragile city. The series features Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer in lead roles, expanding the franchise decades beyond its previous cinematic installments.
Silka Luisa, known for her work on Apple TV’s Shining Girls, serves as showrunner, with original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott attached as an executive producer. The project, which Amazon first announced in 2022, arrives as cyberpunk storytelling gains renewed momentum in prestige television, including Apple’s upcoming adaptation of William Gibson’s Neuromancer. The first trailer showcases the series' signature aesthetic: rain-slicked streets, somber narration, and high-fashion dystopian attire.
