The foundation’s updated resource center aims to demystify a disease frequently discovered only at advanced stages. With approximately 66% of U.S. cases identified incidentally during unrelated procedures, the platform provides plain-language breakdowns of complex treatment paths, including surgery, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies. A key feature of the update is a safety warning regarding DPD gene deficiency; because 3% to 5% of patients face fatal toxicity when receiving fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy, the site urges patients to discuss proactive screening with their oncologists.
Beyond clinical information, the hub integrates practical support to reduce the administrative burden of treatment. This includes the Citizen Health AI Advocate, which aggregates medical records and translates technical jargon, and a guide to the Social Security Administration’s Compassionate Allowances Program, which can reduce disability approval times from months to weeks. To foster community, the foundation now hosts monthly Zoom-based support groups tailored for patients, caregivers, and the bereaved.
