Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Unveils 38,000-Square-Foot Lion and Hyena Habitat

The project serves as the centerpiece of an ongoing transformation aimed at modernizing the park’s zoological collection. Designed to mimic natural African environments, the habitat features 270-degree glass viewing areas, interactive cave spaces, and overhead bridges that offer visitors unique vantage points. For the animals, the facility includes climbing structures and climate-controlled rocks to encourage natural behaviors and physical activity.

Park President Jon Vigue noted that the installation reflects a commitment to both high-level animal care and guest engagement. While the habitat houses both species, the park maintains strict rotation schedules to accommodate the natural rivalry between lions and hyenas, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals. This opening represents the latest phase in a broader capital investment strategy by United Parks & Resorts to introduce new attractions and infrastructure upgrades across the 300-acre property.
