The report suggests that comparing quantum computing to the rapid scalability of artificial intelligence is a fundamental miscalculation. Unlike AI, which has permeated almost every industry, quantum technology is constrained to a narrow set of highly complex tasks. Brian Jackson, principal research director at Info-Tech, emphasizes that implementation is significantly more specialized and technically demanding than current generative models.

Strategic Preparation Over Immediate Adoption

Despite the long timeline for gate-based systems, the research highlights that quantum annealing and quantum-inspired algorithms are providing tangible benefits today, particularly in optimization-heavy sectors like logistics and chemical manufacturing. The firm’s framework identifies five core areas where quantum potential is highest: subatomic simulation, complex optimization, sampling, AI acceleration, and decryption.

For CTOs and CIOs, the primary hurdle is not just technological maturity but organizational readiness. Many firms currently lack the specialized talent and infrastructure required to pivot toward quantum solutions. Info-Tech advises a three-step methodology to mitigate risk: establishing a firm grasp of quantum terminology, mapping specific business problems to quantum strengths, and rigorously evaluating the feasibility of each use case. By focusing on targeted preparation now, enterprises can position themselves to capitalize on the technology as it matures over the next decade.
