Northwest Bancshares Posts Record $54 Million Profit in Second Quarter
Northwest Bancshares, Inc. reported record net income of $54 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a significant 59% jump compared to the same period last year. The Columbus-based financial institution saw its diluted earnings reach $0.36 per share, bolstered by disciplined loan growth and improved margins.

The company's performance was driven by a $4 million increase in net interest income and a steady expansion of its net interest margin to 3.75%. President and CEO Louis J. Torchio credited the results to a balanced approach across the bank’s portfolio, noting a 32% year-over-year surge in commercial and industrial loan growth. The bank also maintained strong credit quality, with net charge-offs remaining low at 0.15%.
Operational efficiency also showed improvement, with the bank’s adjusted efficiency ratio settling at 56.2%. The Board of Directors further signaled confidence in the company's trajectory by declaring a cash dividend of $0.20 per share, marking the 127th consecutive quarter of dividend payments. As the bank integrates its recent acquisition of Penns Woods Bancorp, management continues to focus on expanding its footprint in the Columbus market while managing costs associated with new financial centers and technology investments.
