American Youth Delegation Explores Beijing's Tech and Tradition

The delegation's itinerary began on July 21 with a tour of the Forbidden City, where participants like Evelyn Neff noted the rare chance to witness the scale of Chinese history firsthand. For Neff, who had previously visited Chengdu, the visit highlighted how traditional architecture and culture remain deeply integrated into the modern capital, a contrast she found distinct from experiences available in the United States.

By the morning of July 22, the focus shifted to the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University. There, the students engaged with experts on the practical applications of artificial intelligence and the potential for bilateral technological cooperation. Cecil Brooks, a participant, expressed interest in the ubiquity of Chinese digital tools, specifically highlighting how integrated services like WeChat and Didi manage to connect over one billion people. Brooks suggested that the scale of this digital interconnectedness serves as a compelling model for how technology might be leveraged to bridge gaps in other parts of the world. The exchange program was organized by the China International Communications Group Center for the Americas and the U.S.-based International Student Conferences.
