Burdick, who joined the Centene board in 2022, departs following a career that included a tenure as CEO of WellCare Health Plans and a stint as Centene's Executive Vice President of Products and Markets. In a statement, he noted that the decision was driven by a desire to focus on personal priorities, expressing confidence in the firm's current trajectory.

His successor, Paul J. Diaz, brings a track record of executive leadership to the role. Previously the CEO of Myriad Genetics and Kindred Healthcare, Diaz also holds board experience with organizations such as DaVita and PharMerica. Frederick H. Eppinger, Chair of Centene’s Board, cited Diaz’s governance expertise and history of managing organizational transformation as key assets for the company’s future efforts in member service and innovation.
