AMD Radeon RX 9050: The Return of the 4GB Graphics Card
A 4GB variant of the AMD Radeon RX 9050 has surfaced on ASRock’s official website, signaling a retreat toward lower memory capacities as component costs climb. The card, spotted alongside an 8GB counterpart, arrives as market pressures force hardware manufacturers to compromise on entry-level specifications to maintain price points.
Built on the RDNA 4 architecture, the 4GB RX 9050 features a 64-bit memory interface, 16 compute units, and a boost clock speed reaching 2,600MHz. While these technical specifications accommodate features like FSR 4, the limited VRAM capacity struggles to meet the requirements of modern AAA titles, including Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Halo: Campaign Evolved, even at 1080p resolution.
Though ASRock has yet to provide standalone pricing, the hardware has appeared in a Best Buy listing for an $889 prebuilt desktop. That system pairs the GPU with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 500GB SSD. Neither ASRock nor AMD offered immediate comment regarding the strategy behind reintroducing 4GB configurations in the current hardware landscape.
