Thornburg Global Opportunities Fund Marks Two Decades of Growth
The Thornburg Global Opportunities Fund is celebrating its 20th anniversary, reaching the milestone with a $1.8 billion strategy that has consistently outperformed its benchmark since 2006. Managed by Brian McMahon and Miguel Oleaga, the fund maintains a 5-star Morningstar rating for its long-term, valuation-focused approach.

Since its inception, the Santa Fe-based firm has steered the fund through the 2008 financial crisis, the pandemic, and the recent shift toward AI-driven markets. This resilience has translated into an annualized return of 11.44%, effectively outpacing the MSCI ACWI Index by 301 basis points annually. The strategy relies on identifying high-quality businesses with durable competitive advantages rather than chasing short-term sector trends.
Portfolio manager Miguel Oleaga attributes the fund's longevity to a strict adherence to valuation discipline. By looking beyond quarterly cycles, the management team has secured top-quartile rankings across 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year periods within the Global Large-Stock Blend category. As the fund enters its third decade, it continues to target global equity opportunities, maintaining the same philosophy that defined its performance over the last twenty years.
