The restaurant operator achieved its ninth consecutive quarter of operating margin expansion, reaching 11.1%. Performance was driven by a 1% increase in same-store sales and a 5% rise in same-store transactions, marking the 14th straight quarter of transaction growth. The company successfully opened 560 net new stores during the period, representing a second-quarter record, with 41% of these locations managed by franchisees. Diluted earnings per share grew 21% to $0.70, reflecting strong operational efficiency despite a competitive market environment.

CEO Joey Wat attributed the results to menu innovation and the successful rollout of new service models, such as KCOFFEE and Pizza Hut Burger Bar. The company is nearing a significant strategic milestone with the planned August 2026 acquisition of the Pizza Hut brand in Mainland China. This move is expected to provide greater long-term flexibility and margin support by eliminating ongoing license fees. Yum China remains committed to its capital return program, having distributed $402 million to shareholders in the second quarter alone, and plans to return a total of $1.5 billion throughout 2026.
