VolitionRx Targets $3.8 Billion Sepsis Market with Nu.Q® Platform

VolitionRx is pushing to commercialize its Nu.Q® NETs diagnostic platform, citing a $3.8 billion addressable market for sepsis management. The company claims its H3.1 biomarker offers clinical precision that outperforms traditional organ failure scores, aiming to shift how intensive care units track patient trajectories and outcomes.

The company is currently in active discussions with major diagnostic firms to accelerate the development of the test. According to Chief Commercial Officer Gael Forterre, the platform serves as a critical diagnostic tool, providing consistent data that differentiates sepsis from non-infectious inflammation. Recent peer-reviewed studies indicate the test correlates with disease severity and provides prognostic utility for predicting mortality and organ failure.

Professor Djillali Annane of the Raymond Poincaré Hospital noted that the consistency of the data across multiple international teams is unprecedented for a sepsis biomarker. He suggests the test could function as a "treatable trait" in clinical settings, potentially modifying patient care paths. Dr. Andrew Retter, a medical consultant for Volition, added that the technology provides a low-cost, accessible method to detect diseases associated with NETosis, a condition where immune responses cause excessive tissue damage. By quantifying H3.1 nucleosome levels, the company aims to move beyond standard metrics like APACHE II and SOFA scores to provide more personalized medical care.
