Amnesty Warns India of Complicity in Gaza War Through Arms Exports

The report, titled Made in India: The Supply of Weapons and Ammunition to Israel, identifies 2,596 shipments sent since October 7, 2023. These exports include over 390,000 components for small arms, nearly 565,000 parts for explosive ordnance, and various vehicle components. Amnesty Secretary General Agnès Callamard stated that these supplies flow to Israeli firms fueling the Israel Defense Forces, even as the International Court of Justice acknowledges a plausible risk of genocide in the territory.

While India’s contribution remains smaller than the multi-billion dollar aid packages provided by the United States, rights groups argue the volume is sufficient to implicate the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. Callamard noted that Indian authorities can no longer claim ignorance of the risks, as the ICJ has already issued provisional orders to prevent genocidal acts. The investigation underscores how the defense partnership between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart has evolved from intelligence sharing into direct industrial support, a relationship that critics—including author Arundhati Roy—have long condemned as an endorsement of the occupation of Palestine.
