Redlands Community Hospital Faces Class Action Over Labor Violations
Employees at Redlands Community Hospital claim the facility systematically denied legally mandated rest and meal breaks, according to a class action lawsuit filed in San Bernardino County Superior Court. The complaint, brought by Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, alleges the hospital routinely prioritized operational demands over staff labor rights.

The lawsuit, Case No. CIVSB2617274, outlines a pattern of labor code infractions that allegedly forced staff to work through their allotted thirty-minute off-duty meal periods. The filing suggests that management required employees to work shifts exceeding five hours without a break, and frequently failed to provide a second meal period during ten-hour shifts. Furthermore, the complaint claims the hospital utilized rounding practices on time logs to circumvent penalty payments, effectively leaving workers uncompensated for forfeited breaks.
Beyond meal and rest period violations, the litigation addresses unreimbursed business expenses. Plaintiffs allege that staff were mandated to use personal cellular devices to conduct job duties without receiving the indemnification required under California Labor Code § 2802. The firm representing the class is currently seeking to address these claims through the San Bernardino court system, citing a broad history of non-compliance with state labor standards.
