The program, which marks its first anniversary this month, adjusted its threshold to include households with gross incomes up to 300% of the federal poverty guidelines. Depending on household size and income, participants receive monthly bill reductions ranging from 10% to 80%. These credits are managed through a partnership with the Dollar Energy Fund, an organization that has overseen the utility’s relief efforts since 2023.

Rebecca Losli, president of Illinois American Water, noted that the initiative remains a core component of the company’s strategy to keep essential services accessible. Beyond this specific discount scheme, the utility maintains auxiliary support systems including payment arrangements and the H2O Help to Others program. Residents seeking assistance must apply through the Dollar Energy Fund website or by phone, with annual recertification required to maintain the credits.
