RWS to Acquire Acolad in Major European Expansion
RWS has signed a binding agreement to acquire Acolad, a move designed to bolster the UK-based company’s presence in Europe and integrate its AI platforms into a broader enterprise client base. The deal combines RWS’s global AI solutions with Acolad’s extensive network of linguists and content services across 22 countries.
The acquisition of the Paris-headquartered Acolad adds approximately 1,200 employees to the RWS roster and strengthens its footprint in sectors ranging from public services to regulated industries. Acolad, founded in the 1990s, brings a specialized focus on localization, interpreting, and data services that complement RWS’s existing life sciences and pharmaceutical expertise. Benjamin Faes, CEO of RWS, stated that the merger will allow the company to deploy its Cultural Intelligence Layer and Language Weaver Pro platforms to a wider audience, facilitating more complex content management for international enterprises.
Under the terms of the agreement, the two organizations will continue to function independently until the transaction reaches its expected close by March 31, 2027. The deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and the completion of the mandatory French information and consultation process. Bertrand Gstalder, CEO of Acolad, noted that the union positions the combined entity to help global clients adopt AI-powered workflows with greater speed and security. Acolad’s co-founder, Benjamin du Fraysseix, characterized the acquisition as a natural evolution for the firm, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring a seamless transition for employees and customers alike.
