Macao’s Sands Shopping Carnival Hits Record Attendance
The seventh annual Sands Shopping Carnival concluded at Cotai Expo with a record-breaking 160,000 visitors, cementing its status as Macao’s largest consumer event. Despite challenging weather, the four-day exhibition drew crowds while highlighting a deepening commitment to social inclusion through collaborations with 20 local service organizations.

Running from July 23 to 26 at The Venetian Macao, the event featured over 580 booths spanning eight themed zones, ranging from gourmet food to cultural crafts. Beyond the retail focus, the carnival served as a platform for 400 Sands Cares Ambassadors to provide over 1,120 hours of volunteer service. This year saw an unprecedented level of community integration, as trainees from social service groups—including individuals with special educational needs—showcased handmade products to gain professional experience and public recognition.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, noted that the event has evolved from hosting five social organizations in its inaugural year to 20 today. The initiative aligns with the city's broader economic diversification goals, providing local SMEs and social enterprises with a high-traffic venue to engage with both residents and tourists. By integrating programs like the MSO Little Reporter project and live performances by artists such as visually impaired pianist Chan Ka Keong, the carnival continues to prioritize social impact alongside commercial activity, with cumulative attendance reaching 800,000 over the past seven years.
