Marjorie Lora Myers Honored for Advocacy in Bilingual Education
The Inner Circle has named Dr. Marjorie Lora Myers a Pinnacle Professional Member, recognizing her decades of work in bilingual and multicultural education. Her career, rooted in her own childhood experience in Spanish-language schools, now focuses on guiding first-generation students through the complexities of the American higher education system.
As the current President of the Board of Directors for Edu-Futuro, Myers oversees initiatives designed to mentor high school students pursuing college degrees. Her connection to the organization dates back to 2019, building on a foundation established by the Key School PTA, which created a scholarship in her name for students who excel academically while maintaining their heritage languages.
Myers’ academic journey includes degrees from the University of Florida, George Mason University, and George Washington University. This background informs her advocacy within professional organizations like TESOL and the National Association of Bilingual Education. Her influence extends beyond policy, as evidenced by her inclusion in a permanent exhibit at the Arlington Historical Museum, which highlights her role in shaping language programs within Arlington Public Schools.
Her commitment to student equity is deeply personal, inspired by her parents—a retired Air Force colonel and a WWII Red Cross worker. Having spent part of her childhood in Madrid, where she was enrolled in a local Spanish-only school, Myers credits that immersion for her lifelong dedication to bilingualism. Today, she continues to manage the Dr. Marjorie L. Myers Scholarship Fund, ensuring that the next generation of students has the resources to navigate the path to higher education.
