Oceanco Debuts Leviathan and Draak at Monaco Yacht Show

The dual exhibition highlights the shifting philosophy within Oceanco’s shipyards toward collaborative, crew-centric design. Delivered in November 2025, Leviathan serves as a specialized platform for scientific research, featuring an integrated laboratory, hospital, and advanced dive center. Its layout prioritizes communal interaction, utilizing low-maintenance materials intended to streamline crew operations during extended expeditions.

Draak, which completed a major refit under Oceanco’s Life Cycle Support program in June 2026, functions as a companion vessel to Leviathan. The rebuild repurposed the yacht to support heavy-duty scientific operations, including expanded tender capacity and sophisticated lifting systems. Both vessels reflect Newell’s broader mission to leverage private maritime resources for the benefit of the global scientific community, providing researchers access to remote locations and specialized technology.

Beyond the hardware, the show underscores Newell’s influence since joining the Oceanco team in July 2025. His tenure has catalyzed the expansion of the company’s technological ecosystem, incorporating specialist firms such as Alewijnse and Winel. CEO Marcel Onkenhout noted that this collaborative model allows the builder to pursue increasingly complex owner visions. By integrating these expert partners, Oceanco aims to move experimental maritime technologies from the prototyping phase into standard production, signaling a shift toward more functional, mission-oriented yacht construction.
