Slippery Rock University to open finance lab with $500,000 alumni gift
Slippery Rock University students will gain access to professional-grade financial technology following a $500,000 donation from alumni Joe and Pam Finney. The funding creates the Finney Finance Lab, a new facility in the Eisenberg Classroom Building designed to mirror the high-stakes trading environments found on Wall Street.

The lab will house Bloomberg Terminal workstations, providing students in the Haverlack College of Business with the same real-time data and analytics used by global investment banks and asset managers. By integrating these tools into the curriculum, the university aims to prepare undergraduates for competitive finance roles while enabling them to earn Bloomberg Market Concepts certification. Joe Finney, a 1986 graduate and CEO of T3 Services Group, noted that the gift is intended to ensure the next generation of students enters the workforce with the practical experience required to compete at a high level.
This investment arrives as the university reports significant institutional growth, including a 86.4% first-to-second-year retention rate and a 58.3% four-year graduation rate. Prasad Vemala, dean of the Haverlack College of Business, emphasized that the lab will function as a hub for student-led investment activities and faculty research. The facility is scheduled to open in fall 2026, bolstering the college’s existing AACSB accreditation and its focus on experiential learning.
