Educators at South Valley Academy have voted to join Teamsters Local 492, marking the first time a charter school workforce in New Mexico has organized under the union’s banner. The certification process concluded this week in Albuquerque, establishing a precedent for charter school employees across the state. Andrew Palmer, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 492, described the vote as a demonstration of courage, emphasizing that the decision provides these workers with the collective leverage necessary to demand respect and workplace input.
