EPIC Players Marks Decade of Neurodivergent Theater
Ten years after its founding, the nonprofit theater company EPIC Players is launching a bicoastal 2026-2027 season that spans New York and Los Angeles. Having supported over 250 neurodivergent and disabled artists, the organization continues to challenge industry norms by placing its performers in high-profile, professional productions.
The upcoming season features a mix of ambitious mainstage plays and signature cabarets. In New York, the company will tackle The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the ART/NY Mezzanine Theatre in November, followed by an April 2027 production of 504: The Musical at Theatre Row. Co-produced with Theatre Breaking Through Barriers, the latter recounts the historic 1977 federal building occupation by disability rights activists.
Simultaneously, the company’s Los Angeles branch is expanding its footprint. After a Broadway-themed cabaret at the Glorya Kaufman Performing Arts Center in November, the group plans to debut its first major Los Angeles musical, Between the Lines. This growth reflects a decade-long mission to prove that disabled talent belongs on the main stage, not just in scaled-down showcases. Executive Artistic Director Aubrie Therrien notes that the company’s work aims to dismantle the under-employment and lack of opportunity that frequently plague the performing arts sector for disabled artists.
