PointFive Joins Tokenomics Foundation Board to Standardize AI Spending

As global AI token usage prepares for a 24-fold increase by 2030, PointFive has secured a seat on the newly formed Tokenomics Foundation’s governing board. The move aims to bridge the gap between opaque enterprise AI invoices and the actual operational decisions driving those costs across fragmented cloud environments.

The Linux Foundation officially launched the Tokenomics Foundation on August 4, 2026, bringing together 30 founding members to establish industry-wide benchmarks for AI economics. By integrating with the FinOps Foundation, the group intends to expand the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) to include token-based consumption. This shift is critical as businesses move from experimental pilots to heavy production reliance on agentic AI.

PointFive Labs research highlights a persistent blind spot in current financial management: 50% to 80% of enterprise AI costs often bypass standard platform controls. Alon Arvatz, CEO of PointFive, contends that vendor-dictated billing models hinder efficiency, noting that standard cost exports fail to identify when high-complexity tasks default to expensive frontier models instead of cheaper, equally capable alternatives. The company plans to use its new board position to push for measurement standards that operate at the decision-making layer rather than the invoice level. Following recent successes at scale—including a 12% reduction in total cloud spend for Nubank—PointFive will release new research this week challenging the assumption that simply reducing token consumption leads to lower costs.
