DOOR Cuts 32% of Workforce to Pivot Toward Building Intelligence

A 32 percent global workforce reduction and the total exit of its property management arm mark the latest attempt by St. Louis-based DOOR to reach profitability. The firm, formerly known as Latch, Inc., aims to shave $12 million in annual costs by focusing exclusively on its automated building software.

The restructuring plan eliminates approximately 65 positions, primarily impacting contract labor in Europe and 10 percent of the company’s U.S. staff. DOOR expects to finalize these layoffs by the end of 2026, incurring cash charges between $1.5 million and $2.5 million. CEO Dave Lillis cited the recent launch of the Scout product as evidence that AI integration allows for a leaner, more efficient engineering cycle.

By shedding the property management business—a segment that failed to meet growth targets—DOOR intends to concentrate its remaining capital on the Building Intelligence platform. This shift follows a period of internal overhaul, including a leadership change in 2025 and the restatement of past financial reports. The company now claims its internal systems and AI-assisted tools are mature enough to support a smaller headcount while maintaining its product roadmap.
