Google Maps adds AI agents to handle food orders and travel planning

The tool, dubbed Ask Maps, leverages contextual data to streamline complex requests. Users can now task the AI with finding restaurants that serve specific dishes along their commute, factoring in dietary needs and saved locations. Once a selection is made, the system populates a cart for pickup. This functionality currently launches with partners Square and Toast, with Uber Eats support slated to follow.

Beyond dining, the update expands into travel and community management. The AI can filter hotels based on granular preferences, such as proximity to gyms or specific visual styles. Additionally, Google is introducing conversational contributions; users can upload photos of storefronts, and the software will parse the images to suggest updates to business hours or details. These features are rolling out in the United States, supported by the company's Gemini-powered Personal Intelligence, which links map activity with broader data across the Google ecosystem.
