Industrial Control Solutions Acquires Modern Instrument Company
Industrial Control Solutions has acquired Long Beach-based Modern Instrument Company, a move that integrates specialized aerospace temperature validation into the manufacturer's growing portfolio. The deal, finalized July 31, 2026, cements a strategic push to offer end-to-end compliance services for NADCAP-regulated industrial and aerospace clients across Southern California.

Modern Instrument brings nearly four decades of expertise in temperature uniformity surveys, equipment validation, and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration. By aligning Modern with Duro-Sense—an earlier ICS acquisition specializing in thermocouples—the parent company now controls the entire temperature compliance chain. This integration allows ICS to offer clients both the sensors required for heat-treatment and the certified documentation necessary to pass rigorous industry audits.
ICS CEO Matt Powers noted that the acquisition addresses a critical need for specialized service capacity that the firm previously lacked. Jasmine Smith, Modern’s co-owner and former CEO, will transition to a strategic advisory role to ensure continuity. Under the new ownership, ICS plans to scale Modern’s Long Beach operations by increasing technician capacity and upgrading scheduling infrastructure to manage previously unmet market demand. This acquisition marks the latest expansion for the ICS platform, which already includes Whitman Controls, Thomas Products, and Load Controls under the backing of Houston-based private equity firm LDR Partners LP.
