Apple Adjusts Trade-in Values Amid Hardware Price Hikes

Apple has quietly recalibrated its trade-in program, offering significantly higher credit for select Mac hardware while expanding support to include the latest Google Pixel and OnePlus smartphones. These adjustments arrive as the company attempts to mitigate the friction created by recent, substantial price increases across its flagship product lineup.

The Mac Studio saw the most aggressive revision, with its maximum trade-in value jumping by $260 to reach $1,305. MacBook Pro and Mac Pro owners also benefit from the update, seeing increases of $165 and $150 respectively. While the majority of the catalog received modest bumps between $5 and $20, the company also integrated newer Android handsets into its ecosystem. Users can now receive up to $315 for a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL or $250 for a OnePlus 13.

However, the adjustments are not universally positive. Apple simultaneously reduced trade-in credits for several older Android devices, including a $10 cut for the Google Pixel 8 Pro and a $5 reduction for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G. This strategic shuffling follows a series of price hikes earlier this year that saw some hardware costs rise by as much as $4,200. To counter the impact on consumer purchasing power, the company recently introduced an "Upgrade" leasing program designed to spread the cost of its increasingly expensive hardware over time.
