Muscogee Creek Nation Secures $400,000 for Okemah Housing Project

The capital is part of the Native American Housing Initiatives (NAHI) program, which saw its total funding pool expand to $5 million this year due to high demand and project quality. Brandon Burnett, president of BancFirst Okemah, noted that the partnership aims to provide necessary infrastructure for the local tribal community, where historical disinvestment and economic isolation have complicated housing access. Secretary of Housing Ronnie Rogers emphasized that the new units are reserved for residents earning 60% or less of the area median income. With a significant backlog of applicants for both rental and lease-to-own programs, the Muscogee Creek Nation expects this infusion of capital to provide immediate relief for families struggling to find housing within the reservation. FHLBank Topeka, which oversees the initiative, reported that the program was designed to offer flexible support to tribal nations, a strategy that CEO Jeff Kuzbel credits for the program’s recent growth and success.
