Google Play Store begins hosting rival app marketplaces in the US

While Android has historically permitted third-party stores, these were previously confined to pre-installed manufacturer apps or manual sideloading. Following the collapse of a joint proposal between Google and Epic, the path cleared for alternatives to enter the Play Store. Aptoide serves as the first entry, but the landscape is expected to expand rapidly. Industry observers anticipate the arrival of the Epic Store alongside potential storefronts from major players like Microsoft, Amazon, and Samsung. For now, Aptoide remains exclusive to the US via the official store, though international users retain the option to sideload the application.
