Forbes to Pay $10 Million to Settle California Privacy Lawsuit
California residents who navigated Forbes websites between December 2023 and June 2026 may be eligible for a share of a $10 million settlement. The class action stems from allegations that the media company utilized digital trackers to share IP addresses and unique user identifiers with third parties without explicit consent.
The litigation, Berman v. Forbes Media LLC, centers on claims that the publisher violated the California Invasion of Privacy Act and state unfair competition laws. While Forbes denies any wrongdoing or liability, the company has agreed to the settlement fund to resolve the dispute. To receive a payment, class members must submit a valid Proof of Claim form by November 9, 2026.
Following the deduction of administrative expenses, legal fees, and incentive awards for class representatives, the remaining funds will be distributed on a pro rata basis. Those who do not wish to participate must opt out by September 24, 2026. A final approval hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2026, where the court will review the terms, including a request for $2.5 million in attorney fees.
