Washington Tennis & Education Foundation Gala Hits $1.09 Million Record

CEO Candace Smith confirmed the record-breaking total will propel the organization toward its five-year target: scaling operations to serve 1,000 students annually. The evening, hosted by NBC4 anchors Jim Handly and Jummy Olabanji, highlighted the intersection of professional athletics and youth development. The program featured a fireside chat between former ATP pro Chris Eubanks and WTA standout Hailey Baptiste, alongside an appearance by Frances Tiafoe. The foundation also celebrated six elementary students who triumphed in a public speaking competition held in partnership with Highest Speak.

Corporate backing proved vital to the event’s success, led by Presenting Sponsor Trustar Bank. Board Chair Shaza Andersen spearheaded the effort, while Mission Partner Mubadala solidified its long-term commitment by highlighting its global internship program, which has already provided professional mentorship to nine WTEF alumni. These funds arrive as the organization marks 70 years of providing after-school and summer instruction to children across the District, focusing on academic achievement and life skills.
