Consumers Energy Foundation Opens $500,000 Grant Cycle for Nonprofits
The Consumers Energy Foundation is pivoting its philanthropic strategy by launching the Community Impact Awards, a new initiative designed to fund local grassroots programs. With a total pool of $500,000, the program will distribute 25 grants of up to $20,000 to nonprofits working to improve Michigan neighborhoods.
This funding replaces the former Prosperity Signature Award, shifting the focus toward smaller, community-led projects that address specific local needs. Brandon Hofmeister, president of the foundation, noted that the change aims to broaden access to capital by supporting organizations that possess a direct understanding of their community's challenges.
Applications are currently open for non-profit entities of all sizes, with the submission window closing on September 15. The foundation, which serves as the charitable arm of Michigan’s largest energy provider, reported over $17 million in total contributions across its various initiatives in 2025. Interested organizations can review full eligibility requirements through the official foundation portal.
