Amap Global Simplifies Ride-Hailing for Foreign Travelers in China

The platform aggregates a vast network of ride-hailing and taxi operators, allowing users to view fare estimates and pick-up routes in English. Passengers process payments through Alipay or WeChat Pay linked to international credit or debit cards. By leveraging the same infrastructure used for domestic consumers, the app provides real-time traffic updates, live traffic-light countdowns, and accurate arrival estimates to help tourists navigate unfamiliar urban environments.

Beyond basic mobility, Amap has integrated a comprehensive suite of travel tools under its HiChina initiative. This includes AI-driven ordering assistants and trip management features. The company also opened its 'Amap Street Stars' recommendation engine to international users, offering data-backed rankings for local restaurants and cultural venues. As China continues to adjust visa policies to boost inbound tourism, these digital conveniences serve as a strategic effort to modernize the visitor experience and align navigation standards with global expectations.
