Cook County Honors Ecuadorian Heritage at Independence Day Reception

The festivities move from the outdoor ceremony to the Treasurer’s Office at 118 N. Clark Street, Room 112, immediately following the noon flag raising. Attendees will experience traditional Ecuadorian music and dance performances designed to showcase the nation’s heritage.

Pappas highlighted the role of the local community, emphasizing the entrepreneurship and civic engagement of residents who strengthen the county’s social fabric. During the reception, the office will formally recognize local leaders with Certificates of Excellence. This year’s honorees include Dr. Blanca Rosa Chattin Villavicencio, a dentist and researcher, and professional violinist Alba Layana Izurieta, who operates the Musette Strings Academy. The event serves as a local commemoration of the historic "First Cry of Independence," which initiated a thirteen-year struggle for sovereignty from Spanish colonial rule.
