KuCoin EU Taps PwC Veteran Hongyu Chen-Birkenbeul for Managing Director
With nearly two decades of experience navigating complex digital transformations and regulatory landscapes, Hongyu Chen-Birkenbeul joins Vienna-based KuCoin EU as Managing Director. Her arrival signals a strategic push to bolster the MiCAR-licensed platform's technical infrastructure and operational resilience as the firm scales its footprint across the European Economic Area.

Chen-Birkenbeul will head the company’s technology, ICT security, and product operations. She arrives from PwC Germany, where she spent a decade advising global organizations on cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and technology alliances. Her background includes managing large-scale SAP transformations and establishing governance frameworks for international startups, expertise the firm intends to leverage as it matures under the European Union’s MiCAR framework.
Sabina Liu, fellow Managing Director at KuCoin EU, noted that the platform’s growth requires a balance of technical rigor and strategic innovation beyond basic compliance. For her part, Chen-Birkenbeul characterized the current European market as a new benchmark for the sector, emphasizing that her focus will remain on building products rooted in security and governance. This executive hire aligns with the exchange's broader effort to integrate veteran leadership from traditional financial and consulting sectors as it cements its status as an authorized Crypto-Asset Service Provider under the Austrian Financial Market Authority.
