Rockwell Automation Merges Plex QMS with VisionAI to Automate Quality
With 42% of manufacturing processes projected to adopt AI support within the next year, Rockwell Automation is tightening its industrial autonomy strategy. The company has launched an API-enabled integration between its Plex Quality Management System and FactoryTalk Analytics VisionAI to automate defect detection and improve production traceability.

The integration allows manufacturers to connect existing camera systems directly into the Plex QMS workflow. While traditional visual inspection methods often struggle with an 80% effectiveness rate and fragmented data storage, this new link ensures that inspection results are serialized and permanently recorded. By shifting from scripted automation to systems that learn and adjust, Rockwell aims to move frontline operations toward more adaptable, autonomous workflows.
Beyond visual inspection, the company is embedding AI agents across its digital suite to simplify complex tasks. The Plex Connected Worker platform now features an agent capable of converting technical CAD files into step-by-step instructions for employees. Additionally, natural language-enabled dashboards allow users to query manufacturing data directly, surfacing risks and predicting issues before they impact the production line. This expansion underscores a broader shift in Rockwell’s portfolio, prioritizing context-rich data foundations to help manufacturers scale AI across global operations.
