Greenberg Traurig Recruits Leasing Expert Brian Helweil in New York
Brian Helweil, a veteran real estate attorney known for navigating complex commercial office and retail transactions, has joined Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in its New York office. Moving from Loeb & Loeb, Helweil brings extensive experience in high-stakes leasing, acquisitions, and joint ventures to the firm’s global practice.

The appointment comes as demand for premier office space in Manhattan remains resilient, prompting the firm to bolster its local bench. Executive Chairman Richard A. Rosenbaum highlighted Helweil’s arrival as a strategic move to reinforce the firm's position in the competitive New York leasing sector, citing his reputation and technical expertise as key assets. During his career, Helweil has managed significant mandates, including a 1-million-plus-square-foot lease for a multinational media entity and various headquarters transactions exceeding 200,000 square feet.
Global Real Estate Practice chairs Robert J. Ivanhoe and Stephen L. Rabinowitz noted that Helweil’s versatility across acquisitions and leasing aligns with their broader goals for the firm. For his part, Helweil pointed to the firm's multidisciplinary platform as a primary driver for his transition. A graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Helweil will now focus on scaling the firm’s leasing capabilities while leveraging its international reach to serve a diverse roster of developers, investors, and tenants.
