Leaked Xbox Elite 3 Prototype Features Built-in Display
A Reddit user has surfaced images of a prototype Xbox Elite Series 3 controller, purportedly purchased for $200 on OfferUp. The device features a mysterious built-in screen, a direct-to-cloud connection button, and design elements that suggest Microsoft is prioritizing user-accessible hardware repairs in its next high-end gamepad iteration.
The prototype, stamped with "NOT FOR SALE" labels, aligns with leaked diagrams from a Brazilian regulator earlier this year. Photos shared by user ssuberlex reveal a small display capable of showing an Xbox Cloud Gaming icon and internal Microsoft URLs. Despite the advanced hardware, the unit currently fails to pair with consoles or PCs, showing only a blinking red light.
Beyond the screen, the device integrates two scroll wheels, four rear paddles, and a redesigned detachable D-pad. Perhaps most significant for longevity is the inclusion of accessible Torx T6 screws and a QR code inside the battery compartment, pointing toward a shift in Microsoft’s repairability strategy. While the controller remains a non-functional prototype, industry reports suggest a commercial release could arrive later this year.
