Greenberg Traurig Secures $500M Financing for Dominican Power Plant

A $500 million syndicated loan has cleared the way for the Manzanillo Power Land Project, a 414-megawatt natural gas facility in the Dominican Republic. Advised by Greenberg Traurig, the deal represents the largest single power generation expansion in the Caribbean in more than ten years, signaling a shift in regional energy infrastructure.

The project centers on a combined-cycle natural gas plant and a floating storage regasification unit, supported by a 128-kilometer transmission line connecting Pepillo Salcedo to El Naranjo. By integrating into the National Interconnected Electric System, the facility stands as one of the most significant grid developments in the country’s northern region. The financing, structured without a sovereign guarantee, successfully united a syndicate of 12 lenders across the Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.

Marc M. Rossell, Oscar Stephens, and Shashank Krishna led the Greenberg Traurig team, coordinating with international counsel and local partners including Estrella & Tupete. This investment positions the Dominican Republic as a central energy market in Latin America, demonstrating the viability of large-scale private infrastructure development governed under New York law.
