Shadow Sciences Group Launches Intelligence Services for Private Risk

Minnesota-based Shadow Sciences Group has introduced two specialized advisory services, SCOUT and VEIL, designed to mitigate modern exposure risks. While traditional security frameworks focus on physical infrastructure, these new offerings target the hidden digital and reputational liabilities inherent in travel and high-stakes real estate transactions.

The firm, headquartered in Edina, developed these programs to address vulnerabilities that standard inspections or generic travel warnings often overlook. VEIL, or Venue and Exposure Intelligence Landscape, manages the full residential lifecycle. Beyond standard structural checks, the service investigates a property's past ownership, neighborhood threat history, and the digital footprint left by IoT devices. It also facilitates discrete property acquisitions to protect a buyer’s identity and manages the secure deletion of behavioral data from smart home systems during a sale.

Complementing this, the SCOUT program—Security and Conditions Overview for Upcoming Travel—moves away from broad destination risk assessments. Instead, analysts produce briefings tailored to a client’s specific itinerary, lodging, and personal exposure profile. According to partner Kia Hakimi, the initiative stems from the reality that buyers often inherit the risk history of an address, ranging from a prior owner’s public profile to the proximity of high-visibility neighbors. Both services are now available nationwide on a confidential, engagement-specific basis.
